Very useful course. It has given me a great many options in dealing with young people; in delivering to young people and creating resources for young people. The trainers were the best delivers of training I have seen and made the course interesting and relevant. It was never dull or "preachy".

With over 25 years experience of working with adults, families and young people, Eileen Murphy Consultants & Associates work with the clients of, and train staff within Social Services, Criminal Justice, Education, Mental Health and Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS).
Providing inhouse training across the UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Consultancy also work with the commercial sector to resolve conflict and achieve change. The team have Management experience in Social Services, Education and the commercial fields.The Consultancy also offer a specialism in training Mentors including Learning Mentors and Peer Mentors.
The three models used by the Consultancy; the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Model (deShazer '85) the Examine, Repair & Move On Approach (Murphy ‘93) and Optima Communication Skills (Murphy '06) are non-damaging, client-centred and focus on working collaboratively to bring about change.
In 2006, we developed The Silent Session, a non-intrusive session structure that is utilized as an "engaging" tool when working with resistance and as an empowering resource for helping clients to assess their own situation without disclosing. Evaluations show that this is a welcome resource across all social care and education fields.
In 1993, Eileen Murphy created the first Prevention & Intervention Programme, a whole-team, strengths-focused, structured resource for working with families to prevent breakdown, which has been implemented by nineteen Local Authorities across the UK, allowing for substantial savings on budget while attracting social care awards.
We provide 1-3 day courses for staff working with Children & Families with additional specialist programmes for Children Centres.
Our Preventing_disaffection_and_exclusion training is implemented with Teachers, SENCOs, Behaviour Support Staff, TSA, and Learning Mentors nationwide including Northern Ireland.
Our Asperger's Consultant, Kevin Foley, is available for 1/2 day information workshops for professionals and 1 day training courses for parents on A Solution Focused Approach to Aspergers.
We have a specialist Mentoring training programme for both Peer Mentors and Adult Mentors - this has been accessed in wider frameworks within Positive Activities Schemes as well as shorter 1-3 day training courses for Learning Mentors and Personal Advisers
Our Solution Focused Supervision Skills training course is designed for implementation with Managers who wish to unlock staff potential and achieve best outcomes for clients.
In 2010, the Consultancy were commissioned by NHS Pennine Care to implement our Working_towards_Recovery Programme with 150 of their Acute Mental Health, Ward & Outreach Staff .
Our Affecting Early Years programme has been commissioned by Dudley Police Authority and utilized in their collaborative work with primary schools in one of the most deprived ward in the UK. Details are included in our youth_offending page.
Our additional course for 2011 is our Solution Focused Framework for Early Intervention and Solution Focused Early Intervention training
Our Solution Focused Secure Unit programme was utilized by Gladstone Secure Unit, Liverpool - making it the first of its kind the UK in 2000.

Eileen Murphy, born in Waterford, Ireland: Eileen leads the Consultancy and has, since 1993, devised specialist frameworks for Local Authorities and related agencies including the Prevention & Intervention Programme and The Solution Focused School programme elements of which are implemented by schools scross the UK through our Preventing Disaffection & Exclusion training course.
Eileen's lead specialism in the Consultancy is training staff to work with children, young people and families to prevent family breakdown, school exclusion and youth offending - with the focus on the safety of the child as paramount.
Eileen also leads in our work within theDrug & Alcohol field: currently instigating new ways of working with Drug and Alcohol clients within the Mental Health system. Our Working Towards Recovery training course has been utilized in a wider framework by 150 Acute Mental Health Ward & Outreach, NHS Pennine Care Trust staff..
Eileen developed the Silent Session (Murphy '06) which has already been instrumental in helping hard to reach clients across all fields.
Mawuli Amesu, An experienced Social Work Manager working in a variety of settings including Primary Care Trusts; Residential Care; Education and Children & Families. Mawuli has played a lead role in the Behaviour Improvement Programme, providing leadership and management for multi-agency teams and engaging headteachers in collaborative working.
Mawuli has lead specialism within the Consultancy on Solution Focused Motivational Interviewing and Supervision for Managers.
Kevin Foley, BA (Hons) Econ. PGCE, MA Autism. Author of Asperger Solution. Kevin, whose lead specialism is A Solution Focused Approach to working with Aspergers, has twenty two years of teaching experience in inner city schools.
Kevin developed and headed an inclusion unit in a Manchester school serving the most socio-economically disadvantaged ward in England and works across UK and Ireland as practitioner and trainer with schools and SEN teams for better outcomes for staff and pupils.
Leonard Jason Lloyd BA(Hons) MISecM FRSA is visiting lecturer in Criminal Justice at Loughborough University and visiting lecturer in medical law at the School of Medicine at Leicester University. Author of twenty two books including The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act; An Introduction to Policing and Police Powers; Drugs, Addiction and the Law, Leonard's specialism in the Consultancy is Drugs and the Law. Leonard's work in this area is consulted by the Home Office.
Miller Thomson B.A., Dip Spec. Educ., Dip Educ. As a head teacher of a residential school supporting pupils with significant social, emotional and behavioural difficulties for over 23 years Miller has had extensive experience of using solution focused approaches in all aspects of school management. He has also developed and managed an outreach behaviour support service utilising the solution focused principles.
Miller’s specialism within the Consultancy is as a Gordon International’s Leader Effectiveness trainer and Team Building.
Terry Braithwaite BA DSW CQSW
Terry has been working within the social work field for thirty four years - the last eighteen at Team Manager level. Registered with the General Social Care Council, Terry has operated as manager of a 'Family Solutions Team' and 'Family Group Conference' Service, and is an accredited Family Group Conference Practitioner.
As well as his specialism in family relationships and prevention of breakdown, Terry also holds a specialism in mental health and practiced as an approved social worker for many years with specific skills and knowledge in the area of tranquilliser addiction and bereavement and loss. Terry's specialism within the Consultancy is that of Family Group Conferencing and Mental Health.
