SPLASH Programme - Positive Activities Scheme
 The Young Mentors during training
Our Positive Activies Scheme was first implemented in June 2002, the Consultancy was commissioned by Liverpool City Council to train young people aged between 16-18 as Young Mentors, who were then engaged to work with children on the Summer SPLASH Programme, funded by the Childrens Fund, running over the six week summer holiday.
The remit of the Young Mentors was to help children in their play, to help them explore their skills and strengths and to highlight the importance of supporting others during the SPLASH programme.
Following the intensive 3 day training course by the Consultancy in our The Solution Focused Young Mentoring Programme, the Young Mentors worked with the children and are supported by Liverpool City Council staff.
The Young Mentors were trained to elicit the strengths and possibilities of the children and to encourage them to use these personal resources to get the best from the Programme of events. Each Mentor worked on a 1:1 basis as well as in group activities.
The aims of the Programme is that both the children and the Young Mentors gain an insight to their strengths as individuals and have a renewed recognition of the importance of responsibility towards themselves and others. The Young Mentors received weekly evening support facilitated by Eileen Murphy Consultants and continued study material.
To partner the work that the Young Mentors implemented with the children, Liverpool City Council commissioned the Consultancy to run their Parenting the Teenager and Parenting the 21st Century Child Programmes with the parents of some of the children attending the SPLASH programme.
The Young Mentors on the close of training, receiving their Solution Focused Young Mentor Certificates and their Official Mentor T-Shirts from the Leader of Liverpool City Council and Eileen Murphy
The second local authority to implement this programme was Walsall Borough Council in the midlands.
