Staff Supervision is enhanced by the language of Brief Therapy model with its respectful and collaborative approach.
The training includes language skills to elicit the unique strengths and resources of the worker and simple, effective visuals to assess who can do what in real ways to help achieve goals.
The training gives Managers an increased understanding and knowledge of:
- Meeting the Mindset - utilising the unique thinking style of the individual
- Reframing - offering staff a new view of themselves
- Scaling - for assessment and measuring of feelings and small step actions
- Future Talk - talking about preferred futures
- Visuals - simple, effective tools to map out change
An empowering approach which helps staff:
- Be more aware of their significance in influencing situations
- Be more aware of their skills and resources
- Assess wherever they are "stuck"
- Discover which of their current strategies work for them
- Utilise their inherent skills and coping mechanisms
- Map out what, if any, change needed
- Identify who can do what to help change take place
The approach is applicable to Managers in both the commercial and public sectors.

Supervision is a formal relationship between the supervisor and supervisee. The Solution Focused Supervision session encourages staff to talk about HOW they do their job as well as WHAT their job entails.
Roles are clarified, expectations are raised, workload is reviewed and positive feedback is given using solution focused approach.
Using the language of the Solution Focused approach, the Supervisor helps staff to get a whole picture of their role, where they are thriving and what works for them. By focusing on the Supervisee's successes, the Manager encourages an awareness of strengths and resources, which raises confidence in abilities and brings about further success.
As with Solution Focused coaching or mentoring - the Supervisor is able to create an atmosphere of positive examination of skills which generates opportunity for a positive examination of what works and what needs to change.
The Solution Focused Supervision course, offered by the Consultancy, encourages those supervising staff to create an opportunity to improve people's effective work behaviour; to focus personal, team and organisational development; to achieve better outcomes and to help staff see their part in this structure.
Offering Managers "extra tools in their toolbox" in their Supervision sessions to help their Supervisee to achieve their goals, the Approach encourages all involved, even the most "difficult" or resistant worker to move forward. The training combines the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Model devised by Steve de Shazer with the visuals of the Examine, Repair & Move On (Eileen Murphy '93).
